George Varghese

George Varghese has over 25 years of experience in deploying data-driven algorithms and machine learning techniques to solve complex business challenges. He joined IBS in September 2024, where he founded and now leads the Data and AI Centre of Excellence.

Prior to IBS, George headed the AI/ML practice at Upskills Pte Ltd for nearly six years. There, he built and led the AI Consulting, AI Products, and AI Research teams, collaborating with Centres of Excellence across leading capital market clients in Asia.

In 2009, George co-founded Piquant Capital, a systematic hedge fund, where he served as Quantitative Portfolio Manager and CIO. He designed and implemented the proprietary systems and trading algorithms that powered the fund’s investment strategy. Before that, he worked on the Quantitative Portfolio Management team at Legg Mason and with Citigroup’s top-ranked Global Quantitative Equity Research team.

Throughout his career, George has consistently delivered impact through data science and machine learning, building robust platforms and applying cutting-edge models in real-world applications.

He began his career as a software developer and remains deeply passionate about coding. George holds an MSc in Financial Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala.
